Dr. Pete, tell us about your educational background.
I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy from the Faculty of Health Sciences at Srinakharinwirot University in Thailand. After that, I moved to Russia to pursue a second Bachelor's Degree in Medicine. After six rigorous years of study in Russia, I returned to Thailand to complete an internship at Somdech Phranangchao Sirikit Hospital. Driven by my passion for public health, I am currently studying a Master’s Degree in Public Health, specializing in Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology at Mahidol University.
What is your role with Dharma Voices for Animals/ Dharma Voices for Nutrition?
My role involves educating the public (monks and the followers) about the health benefits of vegan diets. I conduct lectures and provide resources to help individuals adopt a healthy vegan lifestyle in a straightforward and accessible manner.
As a medical doctor, do you recommend vegan diets to your patients?
Research shows that plant-based diets are increasingly endorsed for their health and environmental benefits. Recent studies indicate that such diets can enhance health markers and reduce chronic disease risk. Patient-centered counseling and gradual exposure to plant-based foods can make patients more receptive to these diets. Additionally, hospitals are expanding their plant-based options, promoting sustainable dietary changes that align with professional recommendations.

Are vegan diets safe and healthy for children?
Yes, vegan diets can be safe and healthy for children if they are well-planned to meet their nutritional needs, particularly regarding protein, iron, calcium, and vitamin B12. It’s essential for families to be educated about the importance of obtaining a variety of nutrients.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I enjoy a range of outdoor activities, including scuba diving, surfing, swimming, and I have a strong affinity for the beach and prefer its vibrant atmosphere.
What is your favorite animal?
While I have a special fondness for dogs, I appreciate all animals. Currently, I share my home with three dogs, five cats, and one bird.
