Dharma Voices for Animals (DVA) continues its mission to spread compassion for all living beings by engaging with the local Sri Lankan American community in Houston. Recently, we organized and participated in two meaningful events that brought together temple members, families, and supporters to learn more about veganism and animal rights.
At the Houston Buddhist Vihara Sunday School, we conducted an awareness program for children and parents. The session focused on kindness toward animals and how adopting a vegan lifestyle reflects the Buddhist values of compassion and non-harming. The children responded enthusiastically, and the parents shared encouraging feedback about the importance of teaching these values at a young age.

We also took part in the Food Fair at the Texas Buddhist Vihara, where we connected with the community in a vibrant and joyful setting. During the event, we educated attendees about animal rights and the benefits of veganism. The fair was a great success—many Sri Lankan Buddhists living in Houston expressed appreciation for our work, and several committed to joining us as volunteers. We also met generous donors who pledged their support for future projects.
Both events were a reminder of how powerful community outreach can be in creating lasting change. By engaging with temples, families, and cultural gatherings, DVA is building a stronger network of people dedicated to giving a voice to the voiceless.
